Students will learn the fundamental language, tools, and core techniques in creating book structures.
Introduction to Bookbinding is a two-day exploration of bookbinding fundamentals such as rounding, backing, and other engineering essentials. Edward Patrick Kranz will use traditional hand tools to demonstrate the binding of a functional book built on a solid foundation of conventional forwarding skills.
Over two days, students will learn the following skills and related vocabulary:

History and humor Bookbinding terminology
Workshop Day 1:
Tools of the trade, what you need, and what you can do without Materials selection Paper grain; what it is, how to find it, and why it’s important Folding signatures, marking up, and punching signatures Endsheets essential for an easy opening book sewing techniques Gluing up, rounding, backing, and lining the spine
Workshop Day 2:
Build the case Casing in the textblock The book press & the DIY home book press
Beyond: additional bookbinding history, techniques, and insight will be presented by Mr. Kranz Upon completion, each student will have completed a handsome and functional book of their own making.
All necessary materials and tools will be supplied for the workshop. Tool kits will be available for purchase after the workshop if you want to continue the bookbinding adventure at home.

Introduction To Bookbinding is a prerequisite for all advanced binding workshops taught by Mr. Kranz at The BOOKFORGE.
This event will be available to watch 24-48 hours after the conclusion of the demonstration. Each patron will receive an unlisted link to the exclusive YouTube edited upload. The link will remain active indefinitely so you can watch or rewatch at your leisure. The video will also be available to our Bookbinder and our Book Artist Tiers at www.patreon.com/BOOKFORGE
* Note: This is a beginner/intermediate-level workshop. some book arts knowledge or experience is recommended but not necessary.
